Abstract

Shifting the conservation area function, caused by land conversion such as of mangrove forest into embankment and settlement area, has an impact on diversity of avifauna. This study intended to determine the diversity and abundance of avifauna at Mampi and Garassi, which has a variety of land cover in Mampie Wildlife Reserve. Data colletion was conducted in April to November 2013 by using the Count Point Method. The result, obtained by a total of 50 species of avifauna from 30 families, was found at both sites. Diversity of species at Mampie was higher (2.73) than Garassi (2.16). Moreover, the richness and evenness of species showed the significant calculation result. Based on conservation status, there were 16 protected species (PP No. 7/1999 about preservation flora and fauna. The big difference in diversity at both locations was due to variations communities, land cover, forest stratification and the availability of food.
